Family Fun Night

Once a month, Student United Way at Drake hosts Family Fun Night at Boys and Girls Club at the First Christian Church. Student United Way started the program in October after learning the Club was looking for a way to bring the families of Club members closer together. With this information, these ten Drake students decided they wanted to provide a fun and educational environment for the children and their parents with programming around United Way of Central Iowa's priority areas of education, income, and health. The students were able to implement their programming idea by applying for seed funding through Youth Venture, which is a new initiative in the Des Moines area focused on empowering young people to help make lasting change in our community.

This past week's theme was "Spring Into Good Habits", with activities including decorating terra cotta pots and planting seeds, sports activities, and reading time. The students also gave the families tips on how to be green while saving money during dinner. The next Family Fun Night is going to be co-hosted with a Drake Pharmacy Fraternity on April 17 with a focus on health.
On another note, in case you didn't hear, the Serve America Act passed and will be signed by President Obama when he returns from London!
