Chief Twit

By Colin Peterson

Last Thursday evening, Elizabeth Klinge of WHO-TV 13 (@klinge13) did a story on Twitter that included commentary from yours truly. If you’ve been following this blog then you probably know by now that United Way of Central Iowa has been beefing up its presence in the social media world with profiles on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn in addition to this here blog. I think I can accurately speak for everyone here participating in social media when I say this endeavor has been a lot of fun AND educational.

The thing I have been most excited about with our social media outreach is the two-way conversation that develops. That isn’t to say that until now we’ve only participated in one-way communication. To the contrary, the staff here has a strong record of being responsive to questions and suggestions from donors and community partners. What is new is the speed (instantaneous) with which we are now able to respond to communication and the depth of the audience we’re conversing with (all of you as opposed to what used to be a primarily workplace oriented relationship).

So with that said I have a favor to ask: will you please send me an email (cpeterson@unitedwaydm.org), give me a call (515-246-6500), or write something in the comments section below to let us know how you think the conversation is going? Is there information you would like to see us cover that we aren’t? Your participation is crucial for our success.
